Dr MAY IKEORA - June 2016 to June 2017

Dr May Ikeora is an academic researcher, an ex-beauty queen cum entrepreneur.  May was 1st Runner-up Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in 2003. She was obligated to represent Nigeria in Cape Verde for Miss ECOWAS of which she emerged as the first Nigerian to win the crown. Her interest in human rights and peace building led her to become a goodwill ambassador for ECOWAS were she toured all of West Africa on peace missions. This led to her pursuit of a career in International Humanitarian Law.   Academically,  she gained a Masters in Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies from the University of Bradford. Through a scholarship, she studied and gained a PhD in Law from the University of Hull as well as a postgraduate degree on Research Studies. As an academic, she continues to write and publish in her field of study. May has gained work experience across Africa and Europe as a specialist in Human Rights, Environment, Gender, Anti- Human trafficking and Peacebuilding, consulting for international organisations and other NGOs at various levels. She has received numerous awards including with regards to her work within the African diaspora communities in the UK and recognised by the House of Lords in the UK Houses of Parliament. As an entrepreneur, May founded an organic & natural cosmetics company called L’Avyanna Skin Naturals, which is based in the UK and Nigeria. Dr May Ikeora’s goal was to make Miss Nigeria a consistent, sustainable and intellectual platform that will change the face of pageantry for the betterment of young women in Nigeria.
